Is there any side effects from taking whey protein isolate?

I do not have diabetes but will taking whey protein damage my liver or my pancreas? Will it spike insulin levels or cause blood sugar problems. I understand that a big mac hamburger contains 30 grams of protein and so does a serving of whey so Im not concerned about any kidney damage. I just want a extra boost in energy is it safe>or is it even going to give me Extra Fuel i need?

There are side effects.

Firstly, large amounts of protein make blood more acidic. To neutralize the blood, calcium is drawn from the bones. Also, production of free radicals increases, so you should counter it with a lot of antioxidants .

Secondly, (this is not common knowledge, see Dr. Russel Blaylock’s books and website) any protein isolate contains exitotoxins similar to MSG that increase level of free glutamate in the body. Glutamate cause neurons to be super exited, and then die (very simplified explanation) The effect can be as devastating as Alzheimer’s in the far future or some health issues here in there in the near future - depending on what is the weak spot in your body. One person can get depressed for example, nothing would happen to another. So please use protein isolates with caution.

If you need energy boost, consider complex carbs (nuts/seeds/grains), they do not cause insulin spike because sugar gets into the blood gradually. And they contain plant protein. Almonds, for example, have a plethora of health benefits, and 21% of weight is protein. You may also consider using superfoods like maca , ginseng etc.

Actually, you won’t really get any, besides bulking up easier… About the kidney thing.. well it’s true that if you take more than like 60g at one time it could possible negatively effect your liver by overloading it, but as long as you take it in moderation (I never said don’t take 60g, I said don’t take a whole lot more..) you’ll be perfectly fine and very satisfied.

Reading some of these answers is very comical. I don’t know why people post when they have no idea what they are talking about. Myth: Protein builds muscle. The fact is amino acids are responsible for muscle repair, it is true amino acids derive from protein, but certain types of protein contain different amino acids, so you cannot generalize protein. Myth: Protein damages kidneys. The truth is protein molecules are too large to be filtered through the kidneys, they are transported from the small intestine to the liver, where the liver decides to absorb them or send them on their way to be used elsewhere.

Let me help you out.

Taking protein will help increase muscle strength/mass. It is one of the few supplements that has been proven to work. Whey protein is a faster digesting protein, so I recommend taking it right after you work out. This get the amino acids into the blood stream and available for the muscles to grab. Casein is another type of protein powder you will commonly see. This is a slow digesting protein, so its going to give your body amino acids over a longer period of time. I would take casein protein right before bed or first thing in the morning. Milk has alot of casein protein and I like the fact that you mix whey(fast digesting) and milk in the morning. Of course, you have to eat a balanced diet, protein alone cannot build muscle. As far as i can tell you have a solid protein schedule and you should stick to it. i am 16 years of age and am 5 ft 5 iches tall,weighing 55 kilograms. If you want to grow then eat grain-fed lean meats like chicken and turkey. Also Beef and lamb are very high in protein. Eggs and fish are an excellent source of protein as well.

Stay away from Soy products as its an incomplete protein and your body does not digest the enzymes effeciently.

Whey will help. Take it AFTER your workouts. There will be no side effects to Creatine unless you are depriving your body of water. Thus you must drink more often than usual.

As for your workouts, you need to stress the muscles differently. Work out with weights (i.e. dumbells, barbells) and keep the reps down, anywhere from 5-10 reps per set for any given exercise. You will gain more muscle mass with low rep, high stress workouts.

There are no studies that confirm any side-effects that you mentioned.

There is a reason why professional bodybuilders eat animal protein. Hormone injected animal products are obviously not good for several reasons that is why I suggested grain-fed, hormone-free meats.

Technically the one with the best protein/carb - total product weight ratio would be the best, however at the beggining if you want to gain weight, I recommend the most cost effective one (best protein/carb - price ratio).

I use EAS which is top shelf, but it costs an arm and a leg.

A good plan

Make sure someone who has the qualifications puts a plan together for you.

Proper technique

Make sure you are doing exercises correctly. Doing one incorrectly at the beginning may seem safe. But in the longterm after weeks, months or years it can result in serous injury to put you out of work for a week to months or even longer.

Raise Intensity

Raise the intensity of your exercises slowly, to keep achieving more from your fitness program in the longterm. This can be done by adding more reps/sets/stress/weights/angle for exercises.

Hitting a plateau

If you reach a plateau and increasing the intensity of the bodybuilding sessions reaches its limits, then take a couple weeks off and comeback and start at 75% of the level of the previous plateau (levels may be in number of sets or dumbel weight). Then when you reach your next plateau it will be higher than the previous one. Repeat this for each plateau you experience.

Muscle soreness

You will experience muscle soreness when starting your workouts. Muscles get sore because of the lactic acid that accumulates around the muscles during exercise. Lactic acid is a poison to muscles, but is a necessary sign so that you don’t push your exercise intensity over the limit and injure yourself.

Day after soreness is normal for a worked muscles. But soreness or pain longer than that is a sign that you could be doing damage to your muscles.

You may be working your abs too hard if they are still sore more than 1 day after they were worked, since the body system that creates the lactic acid during a workout usually takes 1 day to regenerate back to normal.

But take into account when working muscles to a new intensity, the effects of initial soreness will be high until your body adapts to the intensity.

Stretch your muscles to squeeze lactic acid out after workouts to reduce soreness.

Rest

Never underestimate the powers of water. People can live longer with only water than food. Hi Lucy! I started the Atkins diet last week and I have lost four pounds! I haven’t even been working out like I usually do. Basically, I do not ingest any carbs. It is a very easy diet to maintain if you are a meat lover, which I am. It is very simple! You can have any type of meat and any type of cheese and eggs.. you can eat things such as: chicken, beef, lamb, fish, cheese smothered chicken, cheeseburger [without the bun], steak, sandwich meat, omelets, philly cheesesteak [without the bun], etc. I am loving this diet. Okay. Relax. Take a breath. And throw away your fruit only plan. You need some protein! So you want to clean up your act. That is great! Start by eating a cup of cereal and milk for breakfast. a few hours later (3) eat a fruit. 2 hrs later, eat a light lunch. Try a pb & j sandwich or a few slices of ham and cheese and a fruit. Then a handful of almonds 3 hrs later. then dinner at 630. then if you get hungry around 9 or so a handful of almonds (10-15). Exercise atleast 30 min 3 times a week. Drink lots of water. And as for detox…GREEN TEA is a great antioxidant, cleans you nicely. Blueberries should be your fruit of choice…antioxidants as well. There is a tea they sell that cleans you out (literally) i forgot what it has in it. But it is a detox tea and completely natural (all herbal). Also, eat al ot of fiber. Fiber one cereal is good. Or try grinding flaxseed into foods (1TBSP) 3 times a day. DOn’t buy it already ground because it loses properties. Grind it be
fore eating it. Don’t eat the seeds without grinding b/c your body can’t digest it.

Anyway, to conclude, don’t just eat fruits for a week. It is too much starch for your body and will be counterproductive in weight loss. If you want do veggies instead. atleast they are less starchy.

Go to this site and do a self evaluation and find out you cal in take. Then buy a pedometer and use it, 4 hours before bed time check it if it is not 10,000 steps then just go for a walk. Go to library and find body parts specific exercises then do them pick weightless or light weight, or just buy some wrist and ankle weights and put them on.

I’m a 15 year old, can I take weight loss supplements?

Even though I have a good fat to muscle ratio, i still a lot of fat around my stomach, thighs and pecks. But I heard about this thing called “Ultra Lean Green”, it’s simply a powder you put to a bottle of water to make into green tea, and supposedly it works really well. Are there any health issues I should be worried about because of my age? And also, if you have used it or know someone who has used it, can you tell me your or their results of it. to start off with focus on cardiovascular work. 3 - 4 days a week of treadmill, bike, stairmaster, etc.. work for 30 45 min and always go for time rather than intensity (meaning lower down the level inorder to complete your time if you have too)

I started taking NV weight loss pills three days ago. Several hours after taking the first pill (recommended on an empty stomach) I started feeling nauseous. I’ve been that way for 3 days now. Has anyone taken this pill and had any side effects? Wondered if perhaps my body just needed to get accustomed to the pill. I also tried Smart Burn with Hoodia - no side effects but the pills are HUGE and too hard to swallow.

My advice would be to do it the right way. Go through a bulking stage where you consume enough calories for your muscles to take full advantage of your workouts. Then, when you’re built up, go through a “cutting” phase where you cut down on the calories and try to remove sugar from your diet (only consuming complex carbohydrates, “good” fats, and plenty of protein as always).

I don’t think so. My mind first went to “hyper-acidity” of the stomach. Gastric acid is hydrochloric acid & when there’s an excess, I believe it’s called hyperchlorhydria (not absolutely sure on that). Acidosis refers to increased acidity in the blood.

Im planning to get 500 mg glutathione pills and take one tablet daily. But, is mere consumption of fruits containing vitamin c with gluathione pills will do the task for me?? It’s best to eat light: broth(not soup), crackers, dry toast, plain white rice, diluted juice.

As for the vitamin C, i honestly do not see that woeking whatsoever. Linus Pauling, the only person to win two nobel prizes, strongy believed in high doses of vitamin C and that they will help him live longer and stronger but research on his brain and bones proved that he was no more immune to any disease or cancer than if he didn’t take the vitamin
C. Personally I feel that high doses of Calcium will be good as well as Cod liver oil might help. U should also consider stem cell…. If it falls within your beliefs.

Best liquid Vitamin C for guinea pigs?

I have 3 male piggies. Two of them chew the Oxbow Vit C tablets with no problems. The other one will only take it once in a great while. I know he should take it daily but he doesn’t. They are very picky and don’t eat all the fruit and vegtables that most pigs do. I tried a small slice of orange and I thought they were going to chew the bars off the cage trying to get away from it! My question is, what is the best liquid vitamin C product out there for guinea pigs? A lot of those vitamins you buy in the pet stores have so many other ingredients in them that I wonder if they need all that extra stuff!? I don’t care how much it costs. I just want the best! I feed them Oxbow pellets with romaine lettuce, carrots, celery, bananas, apples, and lots of Oxbow hay. I do offer lots of other things, but they are usually rejected. Can they get too much vitamin C? I was told that any extra will get “eliminated.”

Guinea pigs know what (and how much) to eat to keep themselves healthy. They will instinctively eat what they need.

If you buy good quality GP food, you don’t need to supplement it, it’s already in there.

Don’t worry about it, they are fine. You are feeding them exactly what they need.
