What’s Swine Flu? 10 points for BEST ANSWER!!!!?

It’s all over Yahoo! and probaly the news, still didn’t check. But anyway, Can it kill you, how do you prevent it?

    Answer

Swine flu has similar symptoms to the more common, human seasonal form of influenza.

It is one of a number of viruses that cause illness among people and animals, causing respiratory problems, fever and fatigue.

Avian flu - which has previously been the subject of pandemic fears after humans began contracting it - is another deadly strain.

According to the Health Protection Agency, outbreaks of swine flu - a disease caused by type A influenza - regularly affect pigs.

People who are around pigs are most likely to suffer from the H1N1 virus but it is also possible for the virus to spread from person to person.

Evoking memories of the fears associated with bird flu, the latest perceived threat of a pandemic was brought to public attention after cases of human swine flu were reported in Mexico and parts of California and Texas in the US.

There have been no cases identified in the UK for at least 10 years.

Scientists found this virus is contagious and spreading from human to human although they do not know how easily the virus spreads between people, the HPA said.

The symptoms of swine influenza in people are similar to the symptoms of regular human seasonal flu and include fever, fatigue, lack of appetite, coughing and sore throat. Some people have also reported vomiting and diarrhoea.

Testing has shown that the human swine influenza H1N1 can be treated with the antivirals oseltamavir (Tamiflu) and zanamivir (Relenza).

    ======================================…

    Source(s):

Can it kill you: YES. Not always, but it has a high mortality rate.

Why can it kill you: It is a strain of influenza (flu) virus that mutated from pigs. Humans have been 100% unexposed to it up until now, so we have no resistance or immunity to it.

How do you prevent it: Don’t go to Mexico, stay away from pigs or hispanics (NOT being racist but mexicans are the ones who are most likely to carry it einstein), and take Tamiflu and Relenza, because they have been known to fight the chance of you GETTING the virus.

Once you actually HAVE the virus… you’re probably f*cked, at least according to the statistics.

Swine Flu Phase 5 Already?10 Points Best Answer?

How Is Swine Flu Already A Phase 5, I Don’t Think It Needs To Be Five Yet But Now That It Is What Are The Procedures The Governments Going To Start Taking,Will They Shut Down Schools,Stores,Etc Like In Mexico Or What???

    Answer

umm not yet. phase 5 is right before an pandemic. phase 5 is when the world is almost to the point of pandemic but not quite. there’s still less than 100 cases of it in the US. and as for the school thing well…. maybe is all i can say. in mexico they only closed because it’s in the heart of the city and that if everyone is out and around then it spreads faster. as for the US there’s not enough cases for the school to close.

don’t worry yet. it’s not yet a pandemic and the drug industry are already stockpiled one kind of anti-viral drug which is working against this virus unlike before in which there were none.

Swine flu… Opinions I will pick best answer?

opinions… Will it kill us all, do u think it’s going to become a huge problem? Anything u think… I’m curious?

    Answer

Just like the influenza virus, it will have the same symptoms and probably effects. You can catch is from swine, or from an infected person. I don’t think we’re all going to DIE. Remember the big SARS scare…do you know anyone who got that?

I think the scare is it’s a new virus, like the Avian flu, so we don’t know much about it, or how to prevent it.

As far as we know, it’s only dangerous for the sick, young and old (i.e. those with weak immune systems).

Until we know more info, there’s no reason to panic. There are 6 billion people in the world, and we only know of a couple hundred who have been adversely affected.

I think, just like anything, you always need to keep your self as healthy as possible, pandemic or not. Eating healthy and exercising is always beneficial to fighting off sickness.

If you live in Maine, you live in a relatively isolated area, and you’re probably better off living in a rural area than a congested area.

Swine Flu Question?10 Points For Best Opinion?

Do you think the CDC or World Health Organization know more than we do seeing how the Swine Flu Isent Bad Enough For A Level 5 Pandemic Level In My Eyes…What Do You Think

    Answer

Yes. Right from the beginning there was signs something wasn’t right about this. A city of 28 million people shut down because a few have the flu…umm I don’t think so.

There has never been a level 5. Not during SARS or bird flu. What do they know?

    Swine flu plz answer?

I dont think i have swine flu but im not sure i have runny nose and i sneeze i dont cough and it doesnt feel like a flu i just sneeze i dont get stuffy nose is it just allergies like runny nose or do u think i should go to the doctor

    Answer

We here at Yahoo Answers are not diagnostic doctors, therefore we can’t tell you what is wrong with you.

For all we know you could have AIDS, because it has the same symptoms.

If you are that concerned about it, GO TO THE DOCTOR.

Otherwise, no one here can help you, because the swine flu has the SAME symptoms as the regular flu.

Questions like these flood Yahoo Answers, and no one can really help with them. If you want to know exactly what the swine flu is, go to the CDC.gov website, the best information you can get.

What are the swine flu symptoms?

The swine flu sounds nasty, can anyone tell me what are the swine flu symptoms? And why is it called the swine flu?

    Answer

Some of the symptoms of swine flu are expected to be similar to the symptoms of regular human seasonal influenza and include fever, lethargy, lack of appetite and coughing.

There is a full list of the symptoms in the link below.

    Swine Flu questions………….?

I was wondering what sort of surgical masks would be suitable to protect one from any possible outbreak?

Also i have read that there is a mushroom that would be beneficial to have handy just in case, anyone know the name of this mushroom?

Finally has anyone seen anything around were they live that isn’t currently being spoken about by the media

Im from northern Ireland myself and if any medical personnel have heard anything please leave an answer

    Answer

UK is among the best prepared for deal with any flu pandemic. Scientists are already working flat out to find a cure for this particular swine-flu virus. In the meantime, there’s plenty of drugs in the form of tabs [anti-biotics I guess] which will control the disease and stop it dead in it’s tracks.

The flu virus is airborne, thus wearing a surgical mask or a simple dust mask as used by workers, will probably stop the virus getting into your lungs. You might consider coating the mask with such as TCP or Isopropyl Alc. etc.

Swine flu is not new, as these links below will explain. However there is one difference between the present outbreak and those of the past, in that the virus has now apparently developed the ability to jump from one human being to another, where before it could only infect people who had direct contact with the pigs who were carrying the virus.http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=s…

You can improve your chances of NOT getting swine flu or any other flu by avoiding crowded places - cinemas, theatres, public transport etc.

    Latest Update :

  • The Swine flu has been renamed to influenza a h1n1 by WHO
  • 5 day shutdown in Mexico.
  • Pandemic alert is at Phase 5
