30 weeks pregnant with 85/45. shaky and dizzy. water and salt intake not helping.

Answer

That’s very low…get to a Hospital before you harm your child…

What is considered low blood pressure?

what numbers indicate low blood pressure?

Answer

=>140/90 = Hypertension

121/81-139/89 = Prehypertension

91/61-120/80 = Normal

<=90/60 = Low

This link showes the accepted standards of normal, prehypertensive, and hypertension:

MedlinePlus - High Blood Pressure

http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/highb…

This link showes the accepted standards of Low Blood Pressure:

MedlinePlus - Low Blood Pressure

http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/lowbl…

People keep saying that “average” or “normal” blood pressure is 120/80. NO IT IS NOT!!! Normal blood pressure is BELOW 120/80. Check the sources I provided.

Drives me nuts!

Does low blood pressure make mountain climbing more difficult?

I have low blood pressure and am prone to getting light-headed. I’d like to try mountain climbing and am aware that the thin air at high altitudes can cause spaciness. I’m wondering if low blood pressure and high altitude can interact with or compound each other, and if those with low blood pressure are more adversely affected by high altitudes. Thanks!

Answer

I had very low blood pressure when I was younger and would often get light headed (I live at 5500ft) but never had any problems at altitiude - even at 14,000+ft. Some people are not affected much and others are - I don’t believe this has to do with altitude.

Not all climbing involves high altitudes - I would try hiking some smaller mountains first and see how you feel. You may have more normal blood pressure when you exhert yourself.

You could also just try rock climbing - which doesn’t always involve altitiude if you do climbs starting at lower elevations.

Good Luck

Fast heart rate but low blood pressure?

My heart rate tends to run a little high - upwards of 100-110 bpm, while my blood pressure is a bit low.. usually around 90/60.

I understand that this can be related, with the low blood pressure causing the increase in heart rate, but my question was… the usual problem with a high heart rate is the increased strain on the heart. If blood pressure is low, however, doesn’t that mean that - despite the higher number of beats - the heart isn’t actually working any harder?

Just wondering what sort of long-term issues I’m looking at, if any. My doctor doesn’t think it’s a big deal, considering my otherwise perfect health and that some people naturally have heart rates closer to 100 than 80. He also cited the blood pressure, mentioning that my blood pressure would drop far too much with any sort of medication.

So, specifically, the question is:

What, if any, long-term effects or issues am I facing with a faster heart rate - taking the low blood pressure into account?

Answer

This Patient Guide is written for the loved ones of heart patients who are dealing with the short-term stress that comes with a test, procedure or recent diagnosis of heart disease. It explains why support is so important to a loved one with heart disease. It also offers practical strategies on how to support a loved one while also taking care of yourself.

Low Blood Pressure- Should I See A Doctor?

Hello, I am a 17 year old male. I went to a blood donation place today to donate blood. They turned me down because my blood pressure was too low. I was 120 over 46. I heard this is really low. Should I go to see a doctor. The nurse asked me if i worked out that morning because this can often make it lower but I havent for 2-3 days. I am 6 foot and 180 pounds.

Answer

Keep your bp at that level the rest of your life and you will be very well off. If someone doesn’t know your entire medical history, any comment they make won’t be exactly accurate for your particular case. Guys normally have a lower heart rate and low bp than women because of the size of their lungs and heart. You are ok. They are very picky about blood for obvious reasons.

Low Blood Pressure and Dizziness?

I have been experiencing low blood pressure and dizziness the past few days - 78/54 and 81/62 are a few examples.

When I stand up I feel disoriented. I have a call into my doctor - but does anyone know how low is too low? This has been happening for a few days now and I have been under a great deal of stress, but the tightness in my chest is starting to worry me and I am starting to feel as if I should stop waiting on the doctor to call back and go the the hospital.

I usually run about 110/80

Answer

You may have what’s called orthostatic hypotension. Person above me may also have this since it is related to standing up.

Basically it means that when you stand up your blood pressure drops too much and definitely can cause dizziness.

Take your BP sitting down and then wait a few minutes put the cuff on, then stand up and see if your BP dropped more.

Problems related to your heart can also cause normal hypotension, meaning just low blood pressure or you may have a combo of both.

I recommend getting your heart checked for any problems leading to decreased cardiac output, etc.

Have a good one!

Celiac low blood pressure?

I’ve just turned 20 and for about 11 months I’ve been having symptoms such as abdominal cramps, attacks of diarrhea with this fat like mucus stuff that comes out (sometimes bloody), constipation, tingling in my fingers, painful muscle cramps, painful mouth sores, chronic indigestion, gurgling in throat and rectum, dizzy spells, my clothes are looser but the scale says I weigh the same, I’m tired all the time. Even after sleeping forever, I still feel drained of energy, I get these floater and sometimes eye pain, sometimes I itch all over, dry patches of skin on my face, shortness of breath sometimes, balance problems (not horrible, but slightly noticeable), allergies, etc…

Anyway, I got my celiac levels tested in february and they were slightly raised, in december I had a cbc done and my WBC count was slightly raised. On march 20th, when I went to the dr’s, I had my blood pressure done and I asked the assistant how it was. And he talked kind of fast, so I couldn’t hear him well

Answer

Hi first rule out all other causes using cbc and other tests, but sounds like you are suffering from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS), but consult yr doc hes the best source to confirm anything.

Low Blood pressure? Mine was reading 106/35 today.. then it went to 58/47 for a while..then 173/….more..?

Is diastolics at 35 bad? Is 58/47 too low? I was having chest pains when my diastolic was 35… what condition causes such severe fluctuations is short periods of time? Is this why often, I feel like I am in a haze? Lightheaded… or is that when it is high… I never knew I had blood pressure issues… these are bone crackling pains in my right side… not my left? What is this… I thought it was a heart attack today.. but the doc said my eeg or ekg which ever it was was fine… help?

Answer

These readings are probably not accurate - your pulse pressure is only 11 mm Hg, which is below the threshold for heart failure, but even if the readings are inaccurate, your pressure appears to be dangerously low given your symptoms.

You should probably not be alone with this type of problem until you know whats going on - you can pass out and go into shock. One thing you can do is to help a little is to stay fully hydrated. Pay attention to your pulse rate and see if it is 50 beats per minute or less, and if so, you need to lie down with your feet elevated higher than your head and keep a phone with you at all times. If you are alone when this happens, call someone take you to the hospital, or call 911 if you feel like you might pass out.

The EKG at the docs office may not mean much if your heart beat or your pulse rate is abnormal only when this problem occurs. You probably need to be on a heart monitor for the docs to diagnose the problem, and you might also need some type of medication for emergencies.

High resting heart rate but low blood pressure?

I have a resting heart rate of 172 (around there) but my blood pressure’s quite low at 52/76.. is that normal?

Answer

My heart doctor loves my blood pressure to be low but when it got as low as yours he was not happy. Mine runs 98/65 . My heart rate was too high like yours never under 110 so he put me on meds to control it. It sounds as if you need a good check up. Don’t put it off , go now.

What are the risks of low blood pressure during pregnancy?

I’m waiting on a phone call from my doctor’s office to see if he want’s me to set up an appointment for sometime this week. I keep having dizzy spells and seeing stars among other symptoms of low blood pressure. (Disoriented, changes in breathing patterns, drastic paling of skin, sudden feeling of being very cold, etc) I checked my blood pressure a little while after the dizzy spell I had today and my blood pressure was indeed fairly low. My BP is usually normal at my doctor’s appts, but it is alot lower after I have these dizzy spells. They normally occur when standing for a period of time. (anywhere between 5-30 min) Low blood pressure also runs in my family.

If it turns out that low blood pressure is the cause of all of this, what are the risks to my baby? Has anyone personally had this before? If it’s not low blood pressure, any ideas as to what it could be? I’m 31wks 3days

Low blood pressure during pregnancy - causes and treatment

By : Sophia Levis

Low blood pressure (also called hypotension) is often associated with fainting and dizziness. In general, low blood pressure is not considered a health risk in the same way that high blood pressure is. However, during pregnancy especially, fainting and falling due to low blood pressure can be of serious concern.

The greatest cause of high blood pressure tends to be dehydration. When the body dehydrates it drastically affects to flow of blood in the body. Additionally, being very hot can contribute to low blood pressure. Standing for a long period of time can also be a risk factor.

While you are pregnant, there are other factors that can cause low blood pressure. Pregnancy causes blood to pool in your legs, making less blood available to the brain. Thus, when you rise from a laying or sitting position you may feel dizzy or faint. This can also cause vision problems in a pregnant woman.

Low blood pressure may or may not require treatment. The treatment of low blood pressure is directed toward the underlying cause; if low blood pressure is caused by dehydration, it may be treated by a physician with intravenous fluids. If it is caused by pooling blood, your physician may recommend graduated compression stockings. A little extra salt may also help, but in this case you need to discuss the other risks with your physician.

There are some things you can do to prevent low blood pressure:

- Drink plenty of fluids, especially water

- Lay on your side, rather than on your back. This may also help with back and sciatic nerve pain.

- If you feel faint, sit down. Put your head lower than your body until you no longer feel faint.

- When getting up from the sitting position, take it slowly.

- Regular exercise helps keep blood pressure normal. Keep up with your physician-approved exercise regimen.

I hope this helps you to better know the risks involved in low blood pressure during pregnancy,

Quick and Rapid weight loss

Monday, June 23rd, 2008

If a slimmer and sexier body is your dream then this is not a high ambition. Many people have succeeded in sculpting their physiques to make them look healthy and desirable. However, this goal is not reached in just a piece of cake or skipping a night and dinner. For some people do, patience is not a virtue. They do not seem to be able to afford so much attention, time and money to obtain compensation from the authority they have always wanted. As a result of these people lead to rapid weight loss practices and programs that might not be as effective as these people are led to believe they are.

Fast-track diet is one of those rapid weight loss practices which may not be very inviting as they seem, according to the study. Fast-track diet programs, such as scientific research shows, are only good while they last. Rapid weight loss often results ironically, to rapid weight gain. people who have been subjected to a low carbohydrate or low calorie diets usually revert back to old eating habits just because humans can not actually live with this type of diet for the rest of their lives.

Now there is scientific research has shown that rapid weight loss does not imply an individual loses unwanted excess fat, it is generally water that has been lost with the following rapid weight loss practices. This can lead to certain alarm, but actually, water is lost very quickly restored. So there is actually zero net weight lost after all. So it should not be foolish enough to do so gullible with the advertising of certain diet pills that are in the market, especially those claiming to aid lose no less than an amount of fat in a short time. They will only dehydrate the body. And just as clearly, the body can only lose two kilos of fat per week, an exception might be lucky if he can lose three, but normally, and only two .

Another rapid weight loss product on the market slimming soap. Claiming that these soaps are made from a unique concoction of rare chinese herbs and seaweed, they claim to help people using them to shed off body fat emulsifying by them at the request while taking a bath. Some are even specialized such as those who promise to give the user beautiful thighs. The ingredients may be helpful for improving the quality of the skin, but no investigation has ever come to the aid of demonstrating the efficacy of these ingredients in emulsifying excess body fat.

A more rapid weight loss product there in the market promises to suppress hunger while contributing to an improvement of the body and metabolism. He also claims to be able to accelerate the healing process and the reduction of certain physical pain, all these plus it is a very chic fashion accent. Well they actually called magnetic weight loss earrings.

The secret of this set of earrings in the magnet, so it says. Wearing them near the ears of the magnetism balances in the body so one will experience all the above consequences. Although press reports say that there are actually studies to back this allegation, yet nothing was found in the medical journals. Although the purchase of a set may not kill a person, and probably not a wise investment. One can also wearing a horse shoe earring for a more sophisticated fashion statement .

Bottom line is no pain, no gain. If one wants a beautiful body, one must sweat it out. And as for that rapid weight loss products on the market if they are too good to be true, they are probably not.

Whats the best medication for palmonary hypertension?

Answer :

pulmonary hypertension is treated with more than one medication because it is a result of more than one problem, this is something you need to decide in consultation with your doctor.

What is the best anti-hypertension drug in this case and why?

MR M.A is a healthy 36-year old obese male.his BP was found of 178/114 mmhg. He is a heavy smoker and drinks 10 or more units of alchohol each evening. He has a sedentary occupation.

what anti hypertension agent coud be used in initial management of his hypertension?

Answer :

First thing is you cannot diagnose hypertension from a single reading. You need at least two more.

If he does have hypertension, the first thing is he needs to stop drinking so much, exercise more, lose weight, and stop smoking. Lifestyle modifications always come first. you wouldn’t let a 300 pound person keep eating 4000 Cal. a day, why would you not counsel this patient to stop his destructive habits?

All of the above answers are at least partially correct. a 36 year old with stage II hypertension should be evaluated for a secondary cause. If one is found then you treat based on that. a Pheochromocytoma would be treated with surgical resection and an alpha 1 and beta blocker. Renal artery stenosis would be treated medically with ACE inhibitors ro angiotensin receptor blockers if possible, otherwise surgical correction would be necessary

Beta blockers and CCBs are no longer recommended as first line agents, he should be put on a or a thiazide diuretic, probably including an ACE-Inhibitor with that high of a blood pressure. If those don’t bring down the BP enough then a CCB or beta blocker would be added.

Is atherosclerotic vascular disease caused by hypertension?

my father recently passed of a heart attack. I just got the death certificate and it said hypertension which i know is high blood pressure and “atherosclerotic vascular disease” which I believe is hardening of the heart arteries. I assume the two are related diseases, in that one caused the other? anyone have any info? and can AVD be caused by inhaling harmful chemicals? like fumes on a job site or something?

Answer :

Atherosclerosis and hypertension are directly related as are kidney disease and retinal disease . In general diet and hypertension team up to cause the hardening ,the HBP by injuring the inside of the ateries and the fat compounds by depositing at the site of the injuries in thick cheesy linings w.hich calcify and restrict blood flow to the heart .

Enviromental air pollution could cause lung ,liver kidney ,dermatological problems but not atherosclerosis

What is the best natural remedy for Hypertension?

I am 40 and have Hypertension for no known reason.

For medication, the doctor gave me Diovian, and Norvasec. These seem to work well. I do get light headed sometimes after taking the Diovian.

Then he gave me the Toprol XL. I started suffering from heartburn; sensitivity to bright lights, and light headedness. I could not sleep (nightmares). I’d get random erections when I was just idling (while driving, or watching TV)

He reduced the Toprol XL, and things got a little more normal. I still could not sleep. So I started taking Melatonin (one when I got home, and one shortly before bed). I discovered my blood pressure went way down. Is this because I am sleeping better, or does the stuff really help my blood pressure?

Melatonin is really cheap. Today I just take Diovian, Norvasec, Melatonin, and B vitamins. I have pretty much normal blood pressure all the time. Once in a while it goes up

What works for you?

Answer :

Hypertensive people can remarkably reduce their blood pressure through nutritional changes. Increasing the amount of vegetables and fruit and reducing the amount of fat and cholesterol will not only reduce blood pressure but can help with weight loss, which also lowers blood pressure.

Eat whole, fresh, unrefined, and unprocessed foods. Include fruits, vegetables, garlic, onion, whole grains, soy, beans, seeds, nuts, olive oil, and cold-water fish (salmon, tuna, sardines, halibut, and mackerel).

Low sodium-high potassium diet. Most people are aware that reducing sodium (salt) intake can help reduce blood pressure. However, that may not be the whole picture. Restricting sodium intake to lower blood pressure appears to work better if accompanied by increasing potassium intake. Keep in mind that reducing sodium intake involves more than not using a salt shaker, but also reading processed and prepared food labels for the sodium content.

Avoid salt, sugar, dairy products, refined foods, fried foods, junk foods, and caffeine.

Eliminate food sensitivities. Use an elimination and challenge diet to determine food sensitivities.

Drink 50% of your body weight in ounces of water daily (e.g., if you weigh 150 lbs, drink 75 oz of water daily).

Hypertension???What are the symtoms???What are the causes???

Answer :

Hypertension can have no symptoms, that is why regular BP checks are so important. Causes are, but not limited to, obesity, too much sodium in the diet, heredity, kidney problems and anxiety.

What are the predisposing factors of hypertension?

Answer :

Cholesterol comes from animal fat like meat, cheese, butter, cream & eggs. Too much cholesterol causes high blood pressure. Eat more vegetables instead.

Secondary Pulmonary Hypertension due to CREST Scleroderma?

Hi everyone, I was wondering if there is anyone out there that has or knows someone that has Pulmonary Hypertension due to CREST Scleroderma? My Mom has just been diagnosed with it, and she is currently on Revatio (20mg 3X’s a day), and she said that she doesn’t really feel any different, she has been on it for about 6 months. Is there any other medicines out there that other people have tried and have they worked for you? Please let me know by replying back to the message, and is there any forums or chatgroups that anyone might know about to talk with people that have this disease? Thanks everyone.

Answer :

okay well i know of one forum that is extremely helpful…

www.roadback.org click on the community tab and then go to bulletin board. the website has to do with ap treatment and people recovering from diseases like ra and scleroderma through this treatment. i can atest to that(i have systemic scleroderma and have done very well on ap) poke around a bit and see if it might be something your mom would consider.

Give adrenaline with caution if presenting with hypertension or hypovolemia..why?

Im a student paramedic trying to learn my drugs…just some questions about adrenaline….Our indications for giving adrenaline pre-hospitally is: croup with life threatening airway compromise, anaphylaxis, asthma with imminent arrest, and cardiac arrest.

Why is hypertension and hypovolemia a precaution for adrenaline? Please answer in as much detail as possible!!

Thank you :)

Answer :

Adrenaline increases cardiac output by increasing both heart rate and cardiac contractility (beta-1 agonist effects). It also increases systemic vascular resistance (in both arteries and veins due to alpha-1 and alpha-2 agonist effects).

In administering adrenaline to a hypertensive pt, you risk causing a hypertensive emergency that could manifest clinically in failure of one or more organ systems:

CNS — ischemic stroke (r/t disrupted cerebral autoregulation), hypertensive encephalopathy, and (less commonly) acute intracerebral bleed

CVS — left ventricular failure, myocardial ischemia (caused by increased myocardial oxygen demand), and acute MI

RESP — acute pulmonary edema

GU — acute renal ischemia (again r/t disruption of already taxed autoregulatory mechanisms)

In a volume-depleted (”dry”) pt, administering adrenaline could cause extreme tachycardia (further exacerbating hypotension as the heart becomes less efficient (remember the Frank-Starling law … LVEDP lowers because of poor contractility, low stroke volume and zilch atrial kick)) … and some lethal dysrhythmias (esp. if the pt is hyperkalemic or has a low mag. or ICa++ level).

Of course, as the poster “Fivemgmorphine” pointed out, these are things you need to know and keep in the back of your mind when pushing epi, but if your pt. is having an acute anaphylactic reaction or is otherwise crashing, giving the drug ASAP could literally save a life (it’s the drug of choice for bronchospasm, shock, and angioedema (here I mean swelling of the throat) in severe anaphylactic rxns).

Is hypertension usually a family history?

And nothing can prevent it if both of ur parents, ur grandparents suffered from it? True?

Answer :

Family history is one of the risk factors. The other risk factors that you cannot control are your age (over 65 is higher risk) and your ethnicity (those of South Asian, Black, Aboriginal, or Inuit descent have greater risk).

The best course of action is to live a heart healthy lifestyle to minimize the other risk factors. This includes not smoking, being at a good body weight, eating a heart-healthy diet, exercising, etc.

A website with great information about all of this is http://www.smart-heart-living.com/high-b… and the home page with links to all kinds of great resources at http://www.smart-heart-living.com/index….

I hope this helps… good luck!

How to take care of a hypertensive person?

Answer :

First, of course, is to follow the advice of your health care providers… doctor, nurse, rehab, etc.

In general terms you need to ensure a proper diet and appropriate amount of physical activity.

Cut back on salt… and be aware of all the “hidden” salt (sodium) that you’ll find in just about every packaged or processed food.

Try to eat as much whole food (i.e., unprocessed) as you can.

A good source of additional information can be found on http://www.smart-heart-living.com/high-b…

Hope this helps… good luck!

High Cholesterol

Is high blood pressure one of the reasons for high cholesterol?

Answer :

Hypertension is sustained elevation of resting systolic BP (= 140 mm Hg), diastolic BP (= 90 mm Hg), or both. Hypertension with no known cause (primary; formerly, essential hypertension) is most common. Hypertension with an identified cause (secondary hypertension) is usually due to a renal disorder. Usually, no symptoms develop unless hypertension is severe or long-standing. Diagnosis is by sphygmomanometry. Tests may be done to determine cause, assess damage, and identify other cardiovascular risk factors. Treatment involves lifestyle changes and drugs, including diuretics, ß - blockers, ACE inhibitors, angiotensin II receptor blockers, and Ca channel blockers.

Dyslipidemia is elevation of plasma cholesterol and/or TGs or a low HDL level that contributes to the development of atherosclerosis. Causes may be primary (genetic) or secondary. Diagnosis is by measuring plasma levels of total cholesterol, TGs, and individual lipoproteins. Treatment is dietary changes, exercise, and lipid-lowering drugs.

I know that high cholesterol can be due to hereditary but does that mean some people have to take medicine?

I understand that high cholesterol is part diet and exercise and part hereditary. I also know about the bad side effects of taking high cholesterol medicine. My questions is should I trust my doctor about taking these medcines or are there alternatives he is not telling me. Please give me your thoughts about this I’m open to alternative medicine ideas as well.

Answer :

If you are not a diabetic, try taking niacin to lower cholesterol. My ex-husbands triglycerides were over 1400. His doctor told him to get the non flush 500 mg niacin. It’s cheap and you can get it at Walmart. He had to take one capsule in the morning and one at night. In three months all of his cholesterol readings were normal. Now he takes one capsule a day. I know a lot of people that take niacin to lower cholesterol and control it. If you are diabetic, you can’t take it because it raises the blood sugar too much.

High Cholesterol?

I had really high cholesterol since ever and I’m in my late 20s. Doctors have been telling me eat healthy and workout. I am really healthy and I workout a lot. I am not overweight. I went on medicine, didn;t lower it much. when I stopped it went back up. they did an ekg test and they say my heart is fine. Now that I’m in my late 20s I want to make sure I become healthy someday and no potential heart diseases. But doctors down want to find the problem, all they want to do is push drugs that don’t work. Any idea what would cause my high cholesterol and not effect my heart. Last reading was not bad at 270, but that is still really high for my weight and age.

Answer :

It is very tough to have young patients with high cholesterol. Doctors hate to put you on cholesterol lowering meds because you’d have to be on them for rest of your life.

It is too early, on the other hand, to run any kind of test on you to see if you have any issues, since you’re too young and will likely pass all of them.

Never the less, your cholesterol has to be controlled for the time being and there is no other good way than drugs. If one doesn’t work, another has to be tried until they can manage your levels.

If you have family history of heart disease, then running test such as a heart scan with a CT scanner may be warranted. If you don’t have any calcium deposits in your coronary arteries, your doctor can go easy on the meds and try to control it with special diets.

Certain types of fish, including salmon

Egg whites

Low-fat dressing

All fresh vegatables

Orange juice

Grape juice

Apple juice

Water

Mangosteen juice (studies had shown that this type of

juice scavenges the LDL cholesterol in your arteries as

well as the syntheic statin drugs like Zocor or Lipitor)

Foods to avoid

Egg yolks

The fatty skins on all chicken, whether fried or baked or grilled

Whole milk

Ranch dressing (because it is way too fatty)

Fried rice

Beef jerky

Macaroni and cheese

Additional foods to avoid….

The obvious artery-cloggers….which are some of the fast food items everyone loves….a teeny list:

Big Mac (from McDonalds)

Quarter Pounder With Cheese (from McDonalds)

Double Cheeseburger (from Burger King)

Whopper (from Burger King)

Double Whopper (from Burger King).

But if you want to eat this bad fast food, best to eat only one of those bad items once a month…not once a day. It is hard to cut back on fat and have to give up on taste….

High cholesterol advice needed please?

Hi, i just had a cholesterol test and it was 7.1 which i know is high.. Does anyone know a list of foods i should stay away from and foods i could start eating. I know exercise is important and i am going to start doing more. I do eat alot of red meat, cheese, olives, olive oil, tuna, prawns, rice, chicken, pasta, salads, tomatoes.. where am i going wrong?

Thanks very much :)

Answer :

first,

does you family have a history of high cholesterol?

second,

did you eat anything less than 8 hours before the blood test?

third,

do some high intensity cardiovascular exercise (like jogging, running, or sprinting… etc)

fourth,

eat natural food sources… don’t fry anything… make sure you take in lots of fish oil, EXTRA VIRGIN olive oil, good protein (fish, chicken), stay away from saturated fats, eat some good carbs (fruits, potatoes, brown rice, yams, whole wheat pasta), make sure you take in enough fiber (psyllium husks “metamucil”, veggies), drink lots of water, don’t over eat.

fifth,

supplement with red yeast rice, FLUSH FREE NIACIN (make sure it’s flush free… this is very good for your cholesterol. 500 mg 3 times per day), garlic extract.

it usually takes my clients about 4-6 weeks to get better cholesterol levels after this regimen

hope that helps.

What foods are good to eat if you have high Cholesterol and want to lower it?

give me list of good foods to eat for dinner,breakfeast,snacks,lunch…….. thankyou

Answer :

Take supplements: Flaxseed oil, flaxseed meal, fish oil, calcium, garlic oil, and B complex. These make a huge difference.

As far as foods: garlic & onions, oatmeal and other whole grains. Avoid high fructose corn syrup like the plague, you have to check labels because it’s in everything. Also try to avoid white sugar and flour, eat plenty of veggies. Fruits and veggies that contain a lot of fiber are great, i.e. carrots, apples, broccoli, berries. If you eat pasta make it whole grain pasta.

If you are on a statin drug like Lipitor be sure you take Coenzyme Q10 (50 mg/day) and Milk Thistle because it depletes your CoQ10 and does a number on your liver. (Milk Thistle promotes liver health.)

I have high cholesterol going through menopause and i quit smoking…need a vitamin supplement that will addre

Teenagers and whey protein for building muscle and gaining weight?

Hi,

I have several questions regarding a teenager who is trying to build muscle when going to the gym.

First, he wants to gain some weight so he can “bulk up” (not gain weight and get fat). He eats a lot, but just cannot gain weight. Would whey protein be good for this.

Also, he is trying to build muscle and get the most out of his workouts at the gym. A trainer said to have 1 whey protein shake an hour? before the workout, and another one directly after working out. Will this help build muscle? Is this healthy? Is this the correct amount to have? Also, how long should he have the whey protein for… every time working out… until we see some results (in muscle and in weight gain)? Should he weene off taking it or just stop? Will the results stay, or will he rely on having whey protein every time he works out.

Sorry for all the questions… your help is greatly appreciated.

Answer

a lot of protein is great, too much protein does nothing( the excess protein will just not be absorbed and will exit the body)

take roughly 1.5 times the amount you way in pounds a day. slowly over the day. The body can, again, roughly, absorb 30-35 grams of protein at a time. It is a good idea to drink a protein shake and have a carb source such as a banana before work out and after work out. Have another low carb hi protein shake right before you go to bed to refuel your muscels when yo uare asleep. That is when your muscles need the protein the scond most, the first most important time would be right after a workout(within an hour of end of training)

Just keep working out and pushing yourself harder and adding more weight, 4-5 days a week at max 1 hour sessions. remember the exercise should burn during the last reps of each set. Goodluck!

Best maximuscle supplement for building muscle?

looking at geting some maximuscle which type is best.

Answer

Well, it depends on what exactly you’re looking for. According to their website, they’ve got 11 different products in their “build muscle” section. They have proteins, creatines, combinations (mostly with protein and other things), meal replacement bars, ZMA, etc. All of those can be used together if you wanted to, but you may want to buy from other companies that don’t charge as much for the simple ingredients (like the ZMA and Creatine at least).

Protein is basic fuel for your body and all muscles. Creatine is quick energy for your muscles. Meal replacement bars… well, that says it in the name. ZMA helps to boost Testosterone levels.

Each of those help different aspects of your workout and can help build muscle in their own way. I’d suggest taking a look at their website to see what’s available.

Whats the best muscle building supplement on the market today?

Answer

I use N.O.-Xplode before work outs and drink a Whey protein shake after work outs…and it seems to be working fine. N.O.-Xplode basically allows more oxygen to get to your muscles when working out, therefore allowing you to get more reps in each set. You can def. tell a difference the first time you use it. And taking protein after helps rebuild your muscles after tearing them down during a workout.

Difference between strength training and building muscle?

Is there a way to do both? build muscle and build your strength, and can you show me the difference between the 2. To build strength you do alot of weight and fewer reps but more sets right? so like 5 reps but like 6 sets of it? i’m just looking for how many sets/reps you should do for strength training and building muscle. just differences

Answer

You are talking about the same thing, strength training is building muscle. How else would you get stronger, by putting on fat?? Yes, typlically to lift heavier weight you will want to do less reps with more weight. But dont overdo it. It is easy to injur yourself if you are not training all of the muscles needed to perform an excercise eaqually. Dont neglect the importance of your arms and back in performing chest excercises etc.

What is better for building muscle, creatine or whey protein?

Answer

Whey protein hands down. To build muscle you need to get several things straight: your workout, rest, and nutrition. Nutrition is probably the most important. If you’re not eating enough, you’re not going to grow. The most important macronutrient for building muscle is protein, and different sources will tell you you need different amounts, but the general “number” accepted by bodybuilders and weightlifters (e.g. not doctors and researchers) is 1g/lb bodyweight. So if you weigh 170lbs, you should aim for at least 170g protein a day. Drink lots, and lots of water, even if you aren’t thirsty, so that this does not task your kidneys.

So, whey protein is essential as it helps you get your diet in check. Creatine is extra, like icing on the cake. It can help you make great strength and muscle gains, and even though you will lose some of it when you get off creatine, your hard earned muscle will not just “disappear” contrary to what a lot of people think. Creatine does make you gain some water weight, but not all of it is just “water.” Also, newer formulations such as creatine dichelate, creatine magnesium chelate, etc. (a lot of time has passed since just normal creatine monohydrate years ago) transport the creatine better into the muscles so that it doesn’t get trapped just under your skin and give you the dreaded “creatine bloat.”

Do bodyweight exercises burn fat while building muscle? and is it a great way to get rdy for lifting weights?

is that True or should i just start lifting? im 16 yrs old btw

Answer

At 16 bodyweight is the IDEAL way to get yourself ready for heavy lifting. Your bones arent formed properly at 16 and heavy lifting can actually stunt your growth or cause permanent damage. Where as body weight will keep you strong, and in the condition you would need to be in to play most sports.

You may want to also take up pilates (bodyweight exercises) or yoga (which will increase your flexibility, reducing the amount of injury you are likely to cause yourself).

If building muscle…?

should i limit my cardio so i don’t lose my muscle???…i am 14 and a hockey player..i want to build muscles and increase speed wat should my weight time and cardio time look like. e.g 1 hour daily weights and 20 mins cardio

Answer

Don’t lift every day. But one hour is good, 3, 4 times a week. I’m not sure as to whether cardio will make you lose muscle. Cardio will slow your metabolism down, while if you gain muscle mass, that will speed it up. If you eat a lot and your metabolism is slowing down, that might help you gain weight. But if you burn too many calories while doing cardio, you might lose weight. If you do a lot a lot of cardio that will make you lose weight also because of the way it trains your muscles. But I don’t think 20 min a day would be bad at all. More than 60 min every day would be bad. But 20-30 min sounds good. Good luck!

Should you lose belly fat before building muscle?

I have at least 25 pound to lose around my mid section and I don’t want to build muscle under the fat. Should I lose the fat first then build the muscle?

Thanks

Answer

that is why u must loss ur belly fat

and i have solution to ur belly fat

Small Ways to Lose a Big Belly

1. Fried foods are garbage. Potato chips, French fries and onion rings are pregnant with saturated fat and calories, yet they contain zero healthy or muscle-promoting nutrients. If you’re on a fat-loss plan, simply eliminate fried foods. That alone will allow you to shed lard quickly

2. Drink a glass of skim milk as soon as you wake up. Some quick protein before you even step into the shower will energize you and end those morning cravings for Egg McMuffins and pastry.

3. Do 2 minutes of pushups every morning. It’s tough to exercise as soon as you roll out of bed, but you can burn off 21 calories a day–2 1/2 pounds in a year.

4. Toss a quart of water in your briefcase. Water helps you burn calories–96 calories just by carrying a bottle while you walk for 20 minutes. Serve it over ice in your office and your body will burn 31 calories warming it to 98.6. Then there’s the aerobic effect of all those bathroom runs.

5. Want to look better naked? Try drinking half as much alcohol. Alcohol contains calories. You may drink like a fish, but booze isn’t water. Even a light beer has more than 100 calories. Booze makes you store fat. Your body sees alcohol as a poison, and tries desperately to get rid of it. Your liver stops processing all other calories until it has dealt with the alcohol. So anything else you eat during the time you’re drinking is more likely to end up as fat. Alcohol also lowers testosterone. With more abdominal fat, testosterone drops.

How long after sex will STD symptoms appear?

I had sex with an escort on Friday night. She gave me oral sex and then we had intercourse. I wore a condom the entire time, for both oral and vaginal sex. I got tested yesterday via blood test for Herpes 1 and 2, Syphillis, and Chlamydia. I got negative results for both. I went back to the clinic today and got a visual exam (doctor inspected penis/genitals), took a urine test, another blood test, and a rapid HIV test. HIV results were negative, Doctor saw nothing looking at my genitals, and I get the other results back in 2 weeks.

I know HIV takes 3 months to generate antibodies for a positive. Seeing as I only got tested just 3 days after the sex, how long before symptoms would appear on me, i.e. warts or herpes. I will get tested again in 3 months, but if I show no signs of warts, growths, or pain while urinating, can I assume after 2 weeks and my test results that I am clean?

ANSWER :

it depends on the type of STI, but it is generally anywhere from about a week up to six months after infection (if you have symptoms at all). so it would be a good idea to go back in a month or so to get tested again–there is no way that infection would be detectable within a few days. also, hiv antibodies can take as long as six months to be detectable, so i would recomend waiting that long.

and hey, i think you realise this, but don’t have sex with a prostitute! (though luckily both she and you were smart enough to use a condom)

When they say penis discharge for symptoms of std’s, what kind of discharge is it?

Is it supposed to be a different color, sticky not sticky, pee, etc. I think I’m bugging out because I just had sex without using a condom a day ago, which of course is the first time I ever had sex, so I’m freaking out a bit. I think I’m just seeing everything as a symptom but anyone can help me out? Also, is UTI considered a STD? About to get tested for everything.

ANSWER :

There are no STD’s which show symptoms within a day. Calm down.

For men, most symptoms are urinary…a burning or irritation when peeing, possibly some itching, and a discharge definitely does not look like urine. It’s usually milky white, and it will come out at times that you are not urinating.

Many men display no symptoms at all even when they have an STD, so it is definitely a good idea to get tested.

UTI’s are not sexually transmitted. If you had a UTI, you would feel as if you had to pee very frequently (almost constantly) and there might possibly be a little blood in the urine.

In the future, only have unprotected sex when you are in a committed, exclusive relationship with someone you can trust, and only after you have both been tested. Even then, there are no guarantees, because testing is not 100% accurate and people have been known to be unfaithful.

How quick can STD symptoms show themselves?

Can you begin to feel symptoms the first day after a sexual encounter?

ANSWER :

i doubt it but if you are worried get it checked. Most std’s have no symptoms. and are cureable with an antibotic but can be deadly if not treated. so if you have any reason to think you could have caught something get checked for it

How soon after sexual intercourse can one develop std’s symptoms??

ANSWER :

It really depends on the sti/std.

Chlamydia and Gonorrhea:

(If they use NAAT testing, like DNA PCR, you can be tested 48 hours after exposure). Usually by two weeks you should have a conclusive test.

HIV: By 20 days, 75% will have a conclusive test. At 3 months, 99% will have a conclusive test - many people though will test at the 6 month mark for a peace of mind.

HSV-1/HSV-2: You will have a conclusive test at the 3 - 4 month mark after exposure.

Syphilis: I have heard you should have a conclusive test within 2- 4 weeks after the exposure.

Most sti/std’s have an incubation period where your body begins to build the antigens/antibodies to fight off infection. That is why there is a slight waiting period to allow your body to build them up.

As for Symptoms:

Alot of sti/std’s are asymptomatic (meaning no symptoms) and because of this, it is always best to be tested when you think you are at risk.

Chlamydia and Gonorrhea mostly do not show any symptoms, but may include foul discharge (in color and odor), abdomenal pains, etc.

Syphilis is the same, you may not have any symptoms but you could have an outbreak of one to a few sores, which will go away and then possible a rash.

HIV, you could have acute symptoms at the 2-4 week mark after exposure, but they resemble symptoms like the common cold/flu. After that, you may not experience any symptoms up to many years (latter of 10 years).

Good Luck

Did i possibly contract HIV / some other STD ?

had unprotected vaginal sex with a woman 18days ago.afterwards she said she regularly had unprotected sex.6days later i ate@a restaurant,7pm.by 9pm i was nauseous.wasn’t able 2 sleep&had 2 run to the toilet 2 throw up a couple of times.felt really weak,as if i was going 2 faint on my way from the bedroom 2 the toilet.i felt better after having thrown up and managed 2 fall asleep eventually, though i was experiencing feverish sweats.the next day i stayed in bed.at that point i just blamed the restaurant, assuming they served me a bad dish, especially since it’s very uncommon 4 me 2 get sick, always had good health, hadn’t vomited in 15years.up till now i haven’t felt like eating much.sometimes i feel hungry but feel like i can’t eat much, otherwise i’ll throw up(that’s how it feels at least, didn’t throw up anymore)&my digestion is troubled, sometimes resulting in low bellyaches.i’m tired&feel like peeing all the time.liqu
ids run straight through me.did i possibly contract HIV / some other STD?

ANSWER :

it probably wasn’t from the sex. you probably caught a bug from the restaurant or the food. food poisoning is what it sounds like to me. try to drink plenty of liquids and eat bread or crackers to settle your stomach. it will pass, if not go to the doctor and get checked out.

What are the symptoms of any STD(sexual transmitted disease )?

Im not sure what any of the symptoms are. It would be wonderful if you could tell me some sites that can help me. I don’t think i have anything because I’m not sexually active yet but i would rather be safe then sorry! thanks alot!

ANSWER :

Try the center for disease control http://www.cdc.gov, or http://www.teensource.org, http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/std-sym… http://yourstdhelp.com/ Keep in mind that the majority of people who get STDs have no symptoms, so once you become sexually active, get tested regularly.

Are these symptoms of Std’s?

About a year ago i had unprotected sex. Since then i’ve been stressing, thinking i may have caught some std since i didn’t really know the girl.

For about 2 & a-half months i’ve had what looks like brown marks or some kind of rash on my knuckles and also red, flaky, dry skin around my armpits.

I’ve also had nasal congestion (stuffy, runny nose) for a couple months now, it hasn’t been too bad but i always have to spit out mucus.

Also, when i run or do any type of cardio excercise i will break out in hives(all over my body; arms, neck, chest, face, thighs, shins) about 5-10 minutes after doing so.

Since i’m in college and pretty much poor i havent been able to see a dr.

any input on what these symptoms may be?

ANSWER :

Hey lad, stop worrying. relax. it could get worse if you keep on thinking so negatively. STD symptoms in males usually present as abnormal penile discharges and not some hives or allergic reactions that you may be actually suffering from. it is normal to have allergic reactions when overly stressed, rashes may appear especially after a heavy or strenuous activity. The mucosal discharges on your nose may just be symptoms of upper respiratory infection or allergic rhinitis. I suggest you drink plenty of water everyday to rejuvenate your skin. Take some antihistamines or any over the counter colds treatment and relax, okay??? the rashes will go away in no time. And be careful next time you shag a girl, if you cant control your urges, at least wear some protection to ease up your mind after doing it.

be cool.

How soon after sex do you start to feel STD symptoms?

how noticable are they at first ( do they start not that noticable and get stronger?)

ANSWER :

Some STDs you will not have symptoms

Then some symptoms maybe 2-30 days(Gonorrhea)

7 days to 6 months (Molluscum Contagiosum)

10-90 days (syphilis)

3 weeks-9 months (Genital Warts/ Condyloma, HPV)

4-28 days (Trichomoniasis “Trich”)

So as you can see it varies.*

Would you assume you had an STD?

I had sex with a man. It was unprotected sex. I am in no danger of getting pregnant since my tubes are tied… so I through caution to the wind.

Now I wonder if I can have an STD and not even know it. . . Would you make an appointment with your GYN for a STD check? How long after sex before an STD would show up as positive? If you go too early can you get a false negative?

ANSWER :

It’s possible. I have HPV, and I have absolutely NO symptoms. The only way I found out was at my annual pap exam. You sound worried, so for your own good, just schedule an exam, and pick up some condoms, to prevent any future freakouts.

IT IS BEST ADVISED TO HAVE SAFE SEX

Heart attack causes

Can a heart attack cause someone to have a seizure ?

Answer

Usually not in and of itself; however, an after effect of a heart attack could cause a person to experience seizure (or “seizure-like”) activity. A “seizure” is generally what an epileptic attack is referred to as; but this term more acurately describes the associated convulsive state. Seizures are a result of a cerebral malfunction which can originate from a number of factors (epilepsy, drug overdose, shock to the body caused by injury, high fever, etc…). A “heart attack”, as the name implies, refers to an event that occurs with the heart (N.B. Without going into too much detail, a “heart attack” is a term coined to describe two different cardiac abnormalities: 1) Myocardial Infarction; in which a portion of the myocardium [heart muscle] dies from a lack of oxygen, usually due to artherosclerosis [a buildup of plaque on interior arterial walls], resulting in retricted blood flow to portions of the heart muscle; and 2) Cardiac Arrest; in which th
ere is a “complete cessation of cardiac activity either electrical, mechanical, or both…”. This is usually brought on suddenly via serious accident/injury, but can also be the result of an occlusion [closing or blockage] caused by a breakaway piece of plaque [embolus] or a thrombus [ a cardiovascular system clot, usually of blood or blood constituents], which can give the appearance of a seizure [to the inexperienced observer] due to the person’s immediate collapse; and which leads me to your question’s answer. ). Sometimes after a “heart attack”, a person MAY have seizure activity due to a thrombosis (either of plaque or clotted blood) having broken loose to form an embolus that occludes a cerebral vessel, disrupting normal neuronal electrical activity; however, in cases when an embolus has caused a cerebrovascular occlusion, usually some form of “stroke” ends up occurring (known as a C.V.A. [=Cerebro Vascular Accident] in medical terms); which can be of varying de
grees, and, although technically not a “seizure”, it MAY mimic one in symptomatic presentation.

Panic anxiety attack will cause heart attack?

Panic anxiety attack for 6-8 yrs with stress work will cause heart attack? Yoga or medication will cure the condition?

Answer

The panic attacks themselves aren’t going to cause a heart attack. As long as you’ve had panic disorder i’d talk to your doctor about medication. Yoga would be great for a stress relief though. Good Luck.

Causes of chest pain not heart attack related?

I have been to the hospital before with chest pain even though current blood work shows everything is normal and I had different doctors diganosed me with pleursy and an inflammation of the breast bone. The pain comes and goes which is a common symptom to angina. What else causes chest pain that is not related to a psyical attack caused by another person? All I know is that I want this pain to stop coming back and what to do to stop it? Or does it just leave on it’s own?

Answer

As you know, there is alot of muscles in the chest area. It could be a type of strain or a pulled muscle. Which isn’t easily detected by your physician. Do you do any repetitive movements at work or anything? It could be something you do so often that you don’t take into consideration.

What could be the cause if not mild heart attack?

Greetings

On Sunday my mom started getting some sharp pains in her chest. After a little while they moved down into her left armpit area and a little bit further down her arm. She has been on medication for high blood pressure for a while now.

It persisted in the chest and arm so she saw a doctor today and he gave her an ECG and blood test. The ECG pointed to a mild heart attack but her doctor doesn’t believe this is the cause so is waiting for the blood test results tomorrow.

Does anyone have an idea of what could cause these symptoms other than a mild heart attack?

Many thanks for yor assistance

Zartbot

Answer

ECG readings are not so definate as you might think. Possibilities are angina, electrolite disorder potasium being one that springs to mind but hyponatreamia could also cause ECG fluctations and many others

The blood test he is waiting for is one that detects heart enzymes that are only released when the cardiac cells die.

Don’t worry though. A heart attack isn’t the end of the world anymore and there are many possible treatments.

Did your mother go into hospital? If not then she may still be asked to go to the coronary cath lab to get an angiogram or they might focus on clot busting drugs.

All in all it depends on how recent the heart attack was (this can be told from the ecg) i think st elevation is the indicator. Anyway i hope that helps,

What is the main cause for heart attack?

men;s health

Answer

The heart is a pump which requires a continuous supply of oxygenated blood to provide nutrients to the muscles responsible for its action. Any reduction in blood supply (ischemia) interferes with the function of the heart muscle and can lead to death of muscle tissue (myocardial infarction).

The heart muscle has the ability to repair itself, provided the supply of oxygenated blood is quickly returned to normal with appropriate treatment.

Blockage of a main coronary artery occurs when blood, which would not normally clot, is prompted to do so because an artery has become narrowed.

The main cause of artery narrowing is a disease called atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries), a process where deposits of fatty material containing cholesterol (plaque) build up along the lining of the artery walls.

What could cause delusional ,mean behavor after heart attack?

my ex mother-in-law,maybe in her mid 60’s,had a heart attack this past

tuesday,i am now imformed she has three blockages, and triple by-pass surgery

has been scheduled for next tuesday,my ex came by last nite and was telling

me about this.i am writing to see can you possibly put any light on the fact

that she has become irrational, mean, delusional, parinoid etc.. she is

carrying on conversations with people whom are not there.she has had alot of

trouble over the years with her legs, she will not accept that she is in

there as a result of a heart attack, she is certain she is there to get her

legs cut off.she has pulledv her i.v. out repeatedly, she is totally

irrational.before tuesday she has always been an intelligent, together

woman.i am told they don’t think she had a stroke,i am also told they

haven’t been medicating her with anything since tuesday night but blood

thinners, she is in ICU i am told some patients have some “psychotic, like”

reactions from being in there with no win

dows and all also she has’nt can’t sleep since arriving there.she has made

several crude, life threatening remarks one regarding a nurse etc… could

you please shed some light on this for me to pass on to the family i would

be so grateful i feel really bad for their hurt and having no reasonable

explanation for her totally irrational behavior

Answer

a heart attack happens when there is not enough blood being supplied by the heart to the heart itself. If she had had a stroke (aka brain attack; meaning not enough blood to a certain part of the brain), then I might be inclined to think that PERHAPS there was some brain damage. The frontal cortex controls behavior and personality.

However, given the other details you have given (i.e., she is expected to undergo surgery soon, etc), I would think that this is a great stressor in anyone’s life. How would you feel if you knew you were going to be laid out on a table, put to sleep, so that someone can open your chest by breaking your ribs open just to get to your heart, which by the way will be outside the body for a while? This would not be an easy concept to accept for anyone of any age.

Given that she is talking to herself, perhaps she needs someone to talk to..someone who does not judge her or try to diagnose her.. she needs to share some feelings without being interrupted etc. Or, she may be thinking out loud (who has not done that). Or, age may be catching up to her: dimensia, alzheimers and other age-related brain ailments are becoming more widely discussed althougth the onset may be slight, progressive and hardly noticeable to family members who remember loved ones in their own way.

At any rate, as a daughter in law, I might want to try listening to her, supporting her and her son (your husband) and your family (in laws) through this time. This is not about you or anyone else or your guys’ perceptions of her and her behavior. This is about her and her struggles to get through this time in her life. I am sure she was there for your husband when he was growing up and needed consoling and someone to listen (who better than mom?), and that you would want someone to do the same if these circumstances were your circumstances, and that you would expect no less from your very children…so, give to her no less than she expects whatever that may be…it will take time to listen to her in order to find this out, something no one can tell your family but her, no matter how large this Yahoo community of answerers…

Best of luck to your mother in law and your family.

Why does high blood pressure cause people to have a heart attack, stroke, heart failure and kidney disease ?

what is the physiological explanation to that?

Answer

High blood pressure causes strain on the blood vessels carrying blood around your body. This strain can cause vessels to become clogged up or to weaken, and this can lead to narrow blood vessels and clots that can cause damage to the heart or brain. Having high blood pressure can also cause heart and kidney failure.

It is important to realise that the higher your blood pressure, the higher your risk of heart disease or stroke. This means that all of us should be adopting a lifestyle that will help to lower our blood pressure whether we have high blood pressure or not.

What causes high blood pressure?

a direct answer please.

Answer :

Lack of exercise and poor eating habits.

Anxiety causes high blood pressure. Does it work vise versa?

I ask because I am being treated for both aflictions.

Answer :

There is a mysterious, not fully-understood connection between high BP and anxiety. Both anxiety and BP fluctuation can be caused by disruption or malfunction in the autonomic nervous system. Please read about Dysautonomia by typing it in to your search engine.

What causes cystolic high blood pressure?

My cystolic pressure is almost always high or borderline and diastolic is usually arount 60 to 65. I amy currently taking 150 mg. of Atenolol daily and still have problems.

Answer :

sissyd,

From your description, it seems that you have Isolated Systolic Hypertension. I would be a bit concerned about it, for if your diastolic pressure is normal and your systolic is high, you very well could have a developing problem. The greater the difference between the systolic and diastolic (what is known as “pulse pressure”), the harder each pulse is on your artery walls.

This condition often comes from inflammation in the arteries themselves. This inflammation stiffens the artery walls and is considered to be an indication of artery damage already present.

If your systolic is borderline high, then it’s around 150? 160? With a diastolic of 60 or 65, that’s a pretty hefty pulse pressure, and I would think that you’d want to do a few things about it:

1. Do tell your doctor about it and see if he can prescribe a different hypertension medication, perhaps a slow-acting nitrate, or perhaps felodipine or ramipril (or both of these), all of which have been shown effective against Isolated Systolic Hypertension, the kind that you apparently have.

2. Change your lifestyle, especially your diet. If you haven’t already, you must cut out salt and alcohol. You must also lose weight. Now, I’m not saying that you are excessively heavy, I don’t know, but I’ll bet you could stand to lose a few pounds. That will help, too.

Some years ago my doc told me that he’d like me to lose a few pounds, and I thought he was being excessively picky. I am 5′ 8″ and I weighed 160 pounds, only two pounds over what had been considered my “ideal weight.”

Well, several years later, for other reasons I did lose weight. I’m now 140 pounds and feel great, run faster, my cholesterol is down significantly, and my blood pressure–never high to begin with–is even lower than it was. Losing weight even when we are not considered heavy is beneficial. Most of us in the West weigh too much, anyway. We’ve had plenty of studies to prove that.

3. Exercise, especially running. That will lower your blood pressure, weight, and increase your heart efficiency.

4. Take aspirin and floss. No, really. A study a couple of years ago showed that people with a higher number of mouth/gum bacteria were at a higher risk of heart disease. We’re not yet sure of the cause, but we know this correlation. Since part of your problem is most likely inflammation, anyway, cut down on all sources of it in your body, especially the one(s) that we already know are associated with problems.

And the aspirin will cut down on the inflammation you most likely have in your arteries.

Please go to your doctor for a different medication tomorrow. While I almost always err on the safe side, in a case like this I’d feel a whole lot better if you were on a medication that we know works while you started your lifestyle changes.

Good luck.

Why do I have high Blood Pressure?

For the past few months since I have been going to the doctor

I keeping getting my blood pressure taken by a nurse. Everytime

it is always high. I had my cholesterol checked and it was very good. My parents don’t suffer from high blood pressure and I don’t eat salt because I don’t like it. The only thing my parents

could think of is I am a little overweight but my mom is a little

overweight and she does not have high blood pressure. It must have been really high because the doctor put me on a

medication. One thing I notice is that when I am really nervous and I get it taken it is really high but when I try to relax and they

take it again it’s little lower but high. Does being nervous contribute to high blood pressure?

Answer :

yes you being nervous does contribute to it being a little higher, however you may be doing somethings that you shouldn’t. for some tips to find out what you should be doing, try this link

Blood gets thick and causes high blood pressure when u workout?/?

I heard that blood gets thick when u do walk and running and it causes high blood pressure specially in winter is it true or no/.?? I m asking that because i have problem of high blood pressure .

Answer :

No, the opposite. Your blood gets thin when it’s well circulated and people who work out regularly (like me) have normal blood pressure, sometimes low following exercise. I know because I donate plasma, so my blood pressure is taken twice a week.

What are the physical symptoms of high blood pressure? Plz dont say none. Plz read on…?

I’ve tried to find online what the physical symptoms are of high blood pressure, what causes it & some home remedies to treat it. All I’ve read is that there are no physical signs of high blood pressure. But I’ve heard many people say they’ve felt bad & their BP must be up. I’m only 30. I don’t have health insurance. I went to the doctor Monday (had to pay) & for the 1st time in my life, I was told my BP was high, 140/90. The nurse askd if I’d been under a lot of stress, that answr is YES. So nthing else was said about it. I was worried about what they were going to tell me about something else, so she figured that’s what caused it to be high. I felt funny that day. Dizzy, weak, heart feeling like its racing & beating in my throat. Felt like I may pass out. I’ve felt like that every day since. So I’m worrying. Is that how high BP makes u feel? Can stress cause it? Can it be treated @ home? I don’t ha
ve ins. Any info is appreciated, thanks!

Answer :

SOmetimes you can feel dizzy when your blood pressure is up, but more likely it’s anxiety. Any time your blood pressure is elevated, your heartrate will be elevated too. Feeling like you may pass out, is probably also anxiety, because generally speaking. LOW blood pressure make you pass out. It can’t really be treated at home, if it is true hypertension. You can reduce your salt intake. Drink alot of water. Those things could help. Also, there are studies that say if you eat a teaspoon of cinnamon everyday (I sprinkle it in my coffee) that it drastically reduces blood pressure. And, definitely, stress can cause high blood pressure. But, you also may have white-coat hypertension (you were nervous at the appointment and therfore your BP was higher). Hope this helps. Good Luck!

High blood pressure at young age?

im 19 years old, very healthy and active, yet have a very high blood pressure. For the past 3months now my blood pressure has been consistently high and my gp is becoming quite concerned. What are the health implications with high blood pressure because my gp doesn’t tell me anything! she just says ‘we’d better keep an eye on it’ and nothing else.Should i be worried and what could be the reasons for my high blood pressure?

Answer :

firstly let me tell you the basic; your heart pumps blood. for this to happen there is a certain pressure with which it pumps out the blood through the arteries. if there is too much pressure, it is called ‘high blood pressure’. it may happen due to a lot of salty foods, and also too much stress. the narrow arteries increase the pressure. if left untreated, it can kill you with a stroke or heart attack. so you have to take special medicine to open up with narrowed down artery so that it remains low. you get it? high blood pressure kills

Why is high blood pressure bad?

it doesn’t make any sense to me because excercise increase’s your blood pressure and excercise is good for you but they say a high blood pressure is bad for you.

i’m confused????????????????????????????????

Answer :

Well it’s bad if it stays up for a long time. I had a echogram done, and one part of my heart is enlarged, and this can be caused by high blood pressure. It’s only enlarged a little but I have to take care, when the heart gets bigger it has to work harder to pump blood..

also high blood pressure can damage your kidneys.

Does eating pork causes high blood pressure?

Answer :

Yes. What a surprise! …the flesh of hogs that get absolutely NO exercise during their lifetime and get fed a diet of grain has lots of saturated fat and cholesterol.. and it causes high blood pressure in humans? Omg what a breakthrough! /sarcasm

Btw. Someone here mentioned exercise… Exercise does not burn off cholesterol.

Processed pork (bacon, hotdogs) also causes lung cancer.

http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles…

The reason a lot of people here are reluctant to consider pork unhealthy is because they’re defensive simply because it tastes good to them.

Physical activity causes diastolic blood pressure to go down, right?
